DL1961 is a brand that creates denim with sustainability at its core since 2008, overseeing the entire process from fiber to finished garment. It closes the loop by turning trash and old denim into new jeans, using Solar power and heat recovery as a source of energy to minimize the environmental impacts.

Their process starts with shredding the trash into fibers, dying and weaving it using the highest quality Dystar liquid Indigo Pigment Constructing to minimize harmful byproducts, and hand finishing the jeans with no water or harmful chemicals.

Problem

Only 15% of old clothes are being recycled.

Jeans takes about 10 gallons of water and consume a lot of energy in its production.

Solution

Dl1961 buy truckloads of post-consumer waste from all over the world and break down used plastic bottles, t-shirts, undies, and more, and turn them into new fibers.

-They begin the process by shredding the old denim and post-consumer waste into smaller and smaller pieces, then weaving them into new yarn with eco-friendly fibers and high-performance stretch.

- The yarns are woven and dyed using the highest quality Dystar Liquid Indigo pigments to minimize harmful byproducts and no bleach or harmful chemicals.

- Jeans are constructed and hand-finished using waterless laser and Ozone technologies in manufacturing facilities.

 Post-consumer waste + waterless technology = high-tech denim.

- Thanks to all the ultra-absorbent fibers and waterless techniques we use along the way, their jeans take about 10 gallons of water while other jeans take1500. They also treat and recycle 98% of the water they use in their in-house treatment plant.

- Finally, the quality of the jeans is checked and delivered.

They’ve also partnered with multiple companies that incorporate circular values.

As Recover, a leading material sciences company that transforms waste into sustainable recycled fibers.

Recover recycled cotton fiber is markedly better for the environment than conventional cotton or organic cotton.

DL1961 weaved the fibers together with high-tech Modal, Tencel, and stretch to create brand-new yarns that meet the high feel and fit standards, with a lower impact on the planet than traditional yarns. Finally, they process it with Laser and Ozone Technologies, delivering jeans that are high quality and good for the planet.
